BOARD ELECTIONS - October 7 @ GENERAL MEETING

PUT YOUR IDEAS INTO ACTION. Each year, half of the Board seats come up for election to a two-year term. Caretakers in good standing may vote in the election and are eligible to run for Board positions.  

Persons wishing to be candidates should email westgrovepack@gmail.com with a recent photo and a short biographical paragraph for inclusion here. 

​Caretakers who can not attend the General Meeting in person may designate another Caretaker who will be attending as their proxy for any vote taken at the meeting.  Proxies must be designated by sending an email from your address of record to westgrovepack@gmail.com prior to the start of the meeting.  No Caretaker may hold more than five proxies. P.A.C.K. Board Candidates (Oct. 2020):

Commitment expectations: Each position is a 2-year commitment. As a board member, you would meet 1x a month for 1 hr. each meeting (no more than 1.5 hrs/on a rare occasion) and attend General Meetings (2X a year, 1.5hrs each).

The following people have announced their candidacy (as well as information on vacant positions starting Oct. 2020):

​​CHAIR:
Jonathan Amaya
Jonathan Amaya is a proud rescue dog dad. He rescued Zoey from Homeward Trails and Rosie from Last Chance Animal Rescue. In his spare time, Jonathan likes to go hiking. He likes to foster dogs to be able to get them into good homes. He is also the secretary for his condominium HOA since 2018. He’s been a regular at the park for two years now and will most likely be found at the park on the weekends. He is motivated to keeping a well maintained dog park with healthy turf and a safe and fun place for dogs and parents to enjoy their time. He is running for Chair of the PACK.

SECRETARY:

Emma McAlary
Emma is a proud and obsessed owner of a Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Auggie.  If you see them in the park together, Auggie is the cutie!  They have been regulars there for more than two years.  Emma is a freelance photographer specializing in commercial and editorial work except for the occasional snapshot of her short sidekick.  When not taking photos and hanging out at the park, Emma can be found cuddled up with a good true crime story, or traveling the world. Emma has been secretary since February 2018.


​TREASURER

Jeff Pandin
Jeff Pandin is the co-owner of Porthos, a rescue beagle. He's a history teacher at Edison High School with extensive experience in non-profit management. He's been a regular at the park since Spring 2014, and can frequently be seen manning the grill or fryer on Hot Dog Fridays.  He has served as Treasurer since March 2015. He hopes to continue efforts to actively manage the turf,  improve drainage in the north end, and implement the Strategic Plan.
​


MEMBERSHIP AND FUNDRAISING DIRECTOR:

  • The Membership and Fundraising Director is responsible for maintaining the list of voting members, recruiting new members, and helping to raising funds for operations and capital improvements.
​Helpful Skills (but not a deal-breaker):
  • Enthusiasm to entertain and throw an occasional party.
  • Interest and ability to promote P.A.C.K. mission and fundraising messages.
  • Creative thumb and willingness to update Facebook page, Kiosk, and sandwich board (at Westgrove Dog Park) with events and notices.
  • Organized enough to maintain expenses and donor information.
  • Willingness to go to local businesses and ask for donations/sponsorships for events and post-event notices (Caretaker Saturday and Festivals).

​OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

Hanna Beard
Hanna is frequently in the park with her favorite golden retriever, Cairo.  Hanna has been Interim Operations Director since June 2020.

AT-LARGE MEMBER

Mike Bober
Mike Bober and his family are recent additions to the Westgrove PACK as the park has become a favorite spot for Scruffles, their seven-month old cocker spaniel. Mike is the president of the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council, an Alexandria-based trade association representing all aspects of the responsible pet care community. He enjoys trivia, cooking and barbecue.

Positions OPEN for October 2020 Election:
CHAIR: 
​
The Chair prepares and distributes meeting agendas, conducts meetings, and facilitates discussion and flow of information to members. The Chair is the primary spokesperson of the P.A.C.K.

​SECRETARY: 
​
The Secretary maintains records of all Board and general meetings.

​
TREASURER: 
​
The Treasurer is responsible for preparation of all legal documents including quarterly and annual financial statements and all required government filings. The Treasurer assists in development of the P.A.C.K. budget, chairs the Finance Committee, keeps track of all revenues, and disburses funds according to the approved budget.

​
​MEMBERSHIP & FUNDRAISING DIRECTOR: 
This position is responsible for maintaining the list of voting members, recruiting new members, and raising funds for operations and capital improvements.

OPERATIONS DIRECTOR: 
The Operations Director is responsible for all operations including, but not limited to, grounds maintenance and capital improvements.

AT-LARGE MEMBER:
These board members assist in the management of the organization and perform other duties as determined by the Chair in concert with the Board.
